Opus Clip’s documents do not say whether it trains AI models on your videos, and they do not say it doesn’t. What they do say: videos, images and transcripts are processed to “improve product and services”, EU and EEA residents can opt out of “AI research and model-development activities”, free-plan projects expire after 3 days and Starter and Pro projects after 30, and the servers run on Google Cloud in the United States. I read Opus Clip’s privacy policy, terms of service, Trust Center and help center on 15 October 2026. This post lays out what each one commits to and what it leaves open.

Disclosure: I run ScaleReach, which publishes this post and competes with Opus Clip. There is no affiliate relationship. I did not audit Opus Clip’s systems, see its SOC 2 report or contact the company. Every Opus Clip fact below comes from a page it controls, linked and dated. The last section checks ScaleReach the same way, because a privacy check that only inspects a competitor is not fair.

The 60-second verdict

Fine for your own public content on a paid plan. Opus Clip publishes a Trust Center that lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3 and GDPR, says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and names its subprocessors.

Check first if you upload client, unreleased or NDA footage. Your videos can be used to “improve product and services”, OpenAI and Google are listed subprocessors, and only EU and EEA residents are offered an AI opt-out.

Plan around short retention. Free projects expire after 3 days, Starter and Pro after 30. Only Pro can keep projects in cloud storage.

Bottom line: a documented company with documented controls. The gap is clarity about AI training, not an obvious security failure.

What does Opus Clip’s privacy policy say about your videos?

Does Opus Clip train AI on your videos?

Its documents do not say. Three things are on the record:

  1. Purpose. The privacy policy lists videos, images and transcripts as user-generated content processed to “improve product and services”.
  2. Opt-out. It offers EU and EEA residents an opt-out from “any use of your personal data for our AI research and model-development activities”. An opt-out implies the activity exists. The policy describes no equivalent for anyone else.
  3. License. The terms give Opus Clip a perpetual, irrevocable license to your submissions “to enable us to operate the Services”. They also say it may use automated systems to analyze submissions “to help detect infringement and abuse”. Neither sentence mentions training.

Together that is not a promise to train and not a promise not to. If the answer matters for your work, ask in writing and keep the reply. The terms list legalnotices@opus.pro and the privacy policy lists contact@opus.pro.

The Trust Center also lists OpenAI and Google among Opus Clip’s subprocessors. It does not say what either one receives.

How long does Opus Clip keep your videos?

PlanProject expiry
Trial7 days after creation
Free3 days after creation
Starter30 days after creation
Pro30 days, or kept in cloud storage (100 GB per user) if you save them

Source: Saving Your Projects in Opus Clip’s help center (read 2026-10-15).

Once a project expires it is removed from the My projects page and “can no longer be recovered”, per the help article. The article does not say when the underlying files are erased from storage. The privacy policy gives retention rules for profile, payment and device data but none for videos. It says only that personal data is kept “for as long as necessary to provide you with our Services”.

This is also why cancelling matters. We cover the 3-day access rule in how to cancel Opus Clip.

Can you delete your data from Opus Clip?

  • One project. Open My projects, use the three-dot menu and choose delete (help article).
  • Social connections. Remove a connected account from the Social accounts menu. Future scheduled posts for it are canceled, and the FAQ says Opus Clip will “delete all your account information from our systems” when you remove your account (social account FAQ). The FAQ sits under social connections, so check exactly what that covers.
  • Your account. The terms say you can remove your content at any time and download a copy of your data first. They also say that after you delete your account Opus Clip stops showing your submissions to other users, but that it may not be possible to remove them completely from its records, and copies saved by other users may remain.
  • A formal request. The privacy policy describes a process for US state-law access and deletion requests and lists account.deletion@opus.pro for other jurisdictions. The Trust Center says that on customer request, data no longer needed is removed “in accordance with agreed-upon customer requirements”.

Who else sees your videos? Opus Clip’s subprocessors

The Trust Center front page lists nine: Google, OpenAI, Stripe, GitHub, Intercom, MongoDB, Redis, WorkOS and Cloudflare. It links to a separate subprocessors page that did not load for my scraper, so I can’t say whether the full list is longer.

The privacy policy says Opus Clip signs data protection agreements with all of its subprocessors and uses standard contractual clauses for transfers out of the EU, UK and Switzerland. Stripe handles card details. Nothing I read says which subprocessors see video content.

Is Opus Clip SOC 2 and GDPR compliant?

Its Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type 2 (the report is available through a Request button), SOC 3 and GDPR, and says its controls are monitored continuously through Secureframe. It also lists encryption in transit and at rest, a third-party penetration test at least once a year, an incident response plan, background checks and a data retention and disposal policy.

One line deserves a close read: “Production data is not used in the development and testing environments, unless required for debugging customer issues.” So real customer data can appear in debugging work.

A listing is not an audit result. I have not seen the SOC 2 report. If compliance decides your purchase, request it.

Is it safe to connect YouTube, TikTok and Instagram to Opus Clip?

Opus Clip posts through the platforms’ APIs, and its help center says those platforms periodically require you to reconnect. For YouTube it needs the Google account that owns the channel, and it cannot connect if you are only a brand-account manager. To stop using it, remove the connection in Opus Clip, then revoke access in your Google account at myaccount.google.com/connections, the page Opus Clip’s own Google Drive article points to. I did not check the equivalent screens for TikTok or Instagram.

The more concrete risk is impersonation. In January 2026 Opus Clip warned about phishing: emails offering fake partnerships or free “Pro Access” that send people to fake sites with a fake “Sign in with Google” button, naming adsopus.com and creator.opusflow.org. It lists its real sites as opus.pro, www.opus.pro, clip.opus.pro, beta-agent.opus.pro and agent.opus.pro, says official email comes from @opus.pro, and says it will never ask you to sign in to another website with a Google account. If a message offers free Pro access, check the domain before you click.

Is Opus Clip safe for client or unreleased footage?

It can be, if you settle five things first. This is a checklist, not legal advice.

  1. Ask in writing whether your content is used for AI training or to “improve product and services”, and keep the answer.
  2. If you are in the EU or EEA, send the AI opt-out email.
  3. Request the SOC 2 Type 2 report from the Trust Center, and ask whether a data processing agreement is available.
  4. Check your client contract against the subprocessor list, especially if it restricts third-party AI providers.
  5. Download your clips and delete the project when you finish. On Free the project expires after 3 days anyway.

For agencies handling several clients, the same questions apply per client. Our guide to AI clipping for agencies covers how workspaces separate client work.

How does ScaleReach handle the same things?

I run the other side of this comparison, so here are our answers, checked against our privacy policy (last updated 2 February 2026) and our code on 15 October 2026.

Opus ClipScaleReach
Published certificationsSOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3 and GDPR listed on its Trust CenterNone published. The privacy policy says data is encrypted in transit and at rest

AI providersOpenAI and Google among subprocessorsThe policy says “third-party AI and video processing services”. In the code: Deepgram for speech-to-text and Google’s Gemini models on Vertex AI for clip selection, with Cloudflare Workers AI as a last-resort fallback

Where Opus Clip does more: it publishes a Trust Center, certifications, a subprocessor list and an EU opt-out. Where we differ: paid-plan projects stay for 180 days, against 30 on Opus Clip’s Starter and Pro. That is convenient and also means we hold your files longer. Our policy is shorter than Opus Clip’s and has the same gap on training. If you need either company’s answer on record, ask both in writing.

FAQ

Does Opus Clip train AI on my videos?

Its documents do not say either way. The privacy policy lists videos, images and transcripts as processed to “improve product and services”, and it offers EU and EEA residents an opt-out from “AI research and model-development activities”. The terms license your content to Opus Clip “to enable us to operate the Services” and do not mention training. If it matters for your work, email contact@opus.pro and keep the reply.

How long does Opus Clip keep my videos?

It depends on the plan. According to its help center, projects expire 3 days after creation on Free, 30 days on Starter and Pro, and 7 days on the trial. Pro users can save projects to cloud storage, 100 GB per user, so they do not expire. An expired project cannot be recovered. The help article does not say when the files are erased from storage.

How do I delete my data from Opus Clip?

Delete a project from the My projects page, remove social connections from the Social accounts menu, and email account.deletion@opus.pro for a deletion request in other jurisdictions. The terms say you can download your data first. They also say that after you delete your account it may not be possible to remove your content completely from Opus Clip’s records.

Is Opus Clip SOC 2 compliant?

Its Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3 and GDPR, with the SOC 2 report available on request. It also lists encryption in transit and at rest and a third-party penetration test at least once a year. I have not seen the report, so I cannot confirm its scope or findings. If compliance decides your purchase, request the report through the Trust Center.

Where does Opus Clip store my data?

Its privacy policy says Opus Clip runs on Google Cloud servers in the United States. The Trust Center also lists Cloudflare, MongoDB and Redis among its subprocessors, plus OpenAI, Google, Stripe, GitHub, Intercom and WorkOS. Transfers from the EU, UK and Switzerland rely on standard contractual clauses, according to the policy.

Is Opus Clip a scam or safe to use?

It is a real company with published security documentation, but scammers do impersonate it. In January 2026 Opus Clip warned about phishing emails and fake sites such as adsopus.com that harvest Google logins. Stick to the official sites it lists, such as opus.pro and clip.opus.pro, and check the sender domain. For billing and cancellation risks, read our full Opus Clip review.

The bottom line

Opus Clip is more transparent about security than most tools in this category. It has a Trust Center, SOC 2 and GDPR listings, a named subprocessor list and a stated retention period per plan. What it leaves open is the question people ask most: whether your videos train AI models. The policy sets “improve product and services” as a purpose, offers an AI opt-out to the EU and EEA only, and never says no.

For public content on a paid plan, those answers are probably enough. For client, unreleased or NDA footage, get the training answer in writing, request the SOC 2 report and delete projects when you are done. If a number or quote here looks wrong, tell us at hevin@scalereach.ai.
