What is a highlight text animation?

A highlight text animation is a short clip where one phrase sits inside a line of text with a marker highlight behind it, and the words around it keep changing. Because the highlighted phrase never leaves its row, your eye locks onto it, and the quick cuts between layouts give the clip its rhythm.

Creators use it as a hook in the first second of a short, as a title card between sections, or as a punchline beat after a setup line. The generator above makes that beat from any phrase you type, with ten text layouts on crumpled paper, a yellow highlight and a zoom blur that grows with distance from the highlighted line.

How to make a highlight text animation

  1. 1

    Type your words

Use one to four words, up to 40 characters, or tap one of the example phrases. Short phrases read best because they sit inside a line of text.

  2. 2

    Pick an aspect ratio

9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for feed posts, 16:9 for YouTube and landscape edits.

  3. 3

    Tune the look

Press play or drag the timeline to see the highlight hold its row while the text around it changes. Use Text size, Speed and Motion blur to match your edit.

  4. 4

    Choose a format and export

Pick MP4, WebM, MOV or GIF, then click Export. The file downloads to your device. Drop it on the track above your footage.

What it does not do

  • It is one effect. There is a single animation style and a fixed three second length.
  • You cannot pick fonts, highlight colours, the paper or the surrounding text. Only the phrase, ratio, size, speed and blur change.
  • The clip has no audio, and the GIF is half size with a limited colour palette.
  • Browsers differ. A video format your browser cannot encode is disabled, and the mark in the corner stays on every free export.

Why a clipping tool ships a text effect

ScaleReach turns long videos into short clips. A good short usually opens with a hook or lands a line, and a three second text beat is one of the cheapest ways to make that line hit. This generator covers that one beat so you do not need an editor open for it.

It is a single effect, not a video editor. For anything longer, such as finding the best moments in an hour of footage, captioning them and reframing to vertical, that is what the AI video clip generator does. For a bigger headline on a newspaper page, try the headline match cut generator.

Highlight text animation

A short clip where one phrase stays highlighted in the same row while the text around it changes again and again. Here the phrase sits inside a line of body text on crumpled paper, and the lines above and below smear outward as the layouts cut.

Three seconds. By default the text cuts to a new layout every 0.1 seconds and cycles through ten layouts, so you see the loop three times. The Speed slider changes the cut pace and the Motion blur slider sets how much the lines smear.

Up to 40 characters. The phrase always sits on one line, and the text shrinks to fit if it is too wide for the frame, so short phrases of one to four words read best.

No. The ten layouts mix serif, sans-serif and monospace type, the highlight is always yellow and the paper is always the same crumpled sheet. You can change the text, the aspect ratio, the text size, the speed and the motion blur.

The layouts use fonts that ship with your system, such as Georgia, Times New Roman, Helvetica and Courier New, so letter shapes can differ a little between Windows, macOS and Android. The layout and timing are the same.

The headline match cut puts a large highlighted headline on a white newspaper page. This tool puts a smaller highlight inside a running line of body text on crumpled paper, with faster cuts. Both export the same formats and sizes.

Export and privacy

Full HD. 9:16 exports at 1080 x 1920, 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 and 16:9 at 1920 x 1080, recorded at 30 fps. The on-page preview runs at a lower resolution so editing stays smooth.

No. The animation is drawn on a canvas in your browser and encoded there. Your text never leaves the page.

MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9), MOV (H.264) and GIF. MP4 plays almost everywhere and is the safest choice for editors and social apps. WebM suits web use, MOV suits Final Cut and QuickTime workflows, and GIF is a small silent loop that works anywhere a video will not.

MP4, WebM and MOV are encoded in your browser with its built-in video encoder, and not every browser or device offers every codec. A format your browser cannot encode is disabled. GIF does not need a video encoder, so it is always available.

GIFs are exported at half the video size, for example 540 x 960 for 9:16, to keep the file small. A GIF holds one pass through the ten layouts, held for your chosen Speed, and loops forever. Use MP4 if you need the full 1080p.

A few seconds. The ten layouts are prepared first, then the frames are encoded in your browser without waiting for the clip to play in real time.

Yes, a small scalereach.ai mark sits in the bottom corner of the frame. You can crop it out in your editor, or keep it.

No. The export is video only. Add music or a sound effect in your editor.

Using it in a video

It is free and there is no sign-up. Type a phrase, export, and the file downloads straight to your device.

No. The kickers, headings and sentences are generic, made-up placeholder lines, so the clip does not reproduce any real article or publication.

Import the file like any other video clip. Place it on the track above your footage as a title card, or cut it in between two clips as a punchline beat.

Drop it in as a hook in the first second, a title card between sections or a punchline beat. If you are still working out which moments of a long video deserve a card like this, ScaleReach finds and clips them for you.
