Which ratio people actually choose

Multi-ratio export is a standard feature claim, so it is worth looking at what gets used. Across 7,101 rendered clips as of 27 July 2026:

Vertical takes 96% and the other two ratios together account for a rounding error. Which means resizing is not really a ratio-picking problem — it is a "does the crop keep the right thing in frame" problem, and that is the only part worth evaluating.

Going from 16:9 to 9:16 discards roughly two thirds of the horizontal frame. A fixed centre crop is fine for a centred presenter and loses the subject on anything else. We track the active speaker instead, which handles interviews and moving subjects but does not rescue screen recordings, where the important content is text spread across the full width. Those need letterboxing or a manual crop, and no automatic reframe fixes them.
