Instagram allows up to 90 seconds for a Reel, which tempts people into treating the ceiling as a target. Across 7,101 clips produced as of 27 July 2026, the median length our pipeline actually selects is 42 seconds, with a mean of 46.7. The moments that work are shorter than the format permits.

That is not a limitation we imposed. Clip boundaries follow where a thought starts and finishes in the transcript, and in conversational audio a self-contained point usually resolves inside a minute. When it genuinely does not, the pipeline will run to 180 seconds, which is longer than Reels accepts — those are the clips to trim by hand or send to YouTube instead.

On format, 96% of everything we render comes out 9:16, so vertical is the default rather than an export option you have to remember. The part worth your attention is the first two seconds: a podcast clip opens on someone mid-sentence unless you deliberately pick a start point that stands alone, and no automatic boundary detection fully solves that.
